Rising energy costs, tightening ESG mandates, and the financial risk of even brief downtime have made real-time operational visibility more critical than ever. However, many legacy Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platforms still require months of complex network engineering and costly commissioning before delivering meaningful data.
Packet Power designed EMX to eliminate those barriers. Our wireless meters automatically self-configure, while the software requires just a single IP address per site to get up and running. Users can access live power and environmental readings within minutes, well before other systems would even complete setup.
In April 2025, we extended EMX’s capabilities further, introducing intuitive 3D views, intelligent alarm functionality, and robust role-based security. These enhancements build on EMX’s core promise: powerful, real-time insight delivered through a system that remains easy to deploy, manage, and scale.
The latest EMX release was guided directly by input from data center managers and critical facility operators worldwide. Two themes consistently emerged during user conversations.
One of the most frequent requests was, “Show me everything at a glance.” Teams needed a more intuitive, visual way to assess thermal and power risk without jumping between tabs or relying on manual spreadsheets.
Another recurring theme was the need for precise access control. As one user put it, “Give the right people the right controls—no more, no less.” For example, finance teams should not be able to change environmental thresholds, and contractors shouldn't have access to sensitive billing information.
These insights shaped the latest EMX upgrade, which now includes an intuitive 3D Data Viewer for real-time visual monitoring and alerting, granular role-based access controls, and support for SAML/SSO authentication. Each enhancement ensures that users get exactly what they need within the context of their facility—securely, efficiently, and without unnecessary complexity.
The latest EMX release builds on features our users rely on, refining core capabilities and adding powerful new tools. Here's a look at some of the key upgrades and enhancements:
Feature |
What's New or Improved |
3D Data Viewer |
New. Real-time thermal and power conditions are now displayed in interactive, customizable, intuitive visualizations, making it easier to spot issues at a glance. |
Equipment modeling |
New. Ability to represent and track data center facilities, locations, and equipment, not just monitoring devices. Ability to visually represent real-time data and alert conditions in 3D models through customizable 3D data projections. |
Role-Based Access + SAML/SSO |
Enhanced. More granular user roles (Read-Only, Manager, Admin) with corporate SSO support, ensuring secure, policy-compliant user access. |
Mass Alarm Policies |
New. Apply threshold-based alerts across an entire facility in seconds—streamlining alarm setup at scale. |
Centralized Gateway Manager |
Improved. Now manage updates and settings across hundreds or thousands of Packet Power gateways from a single, unified view. |
Node-Attribute “Virtual Tagging” |
Improved. More flexible tagging lets you group and filter by site, customer, circuit, or rack—for detailed reporting and attribution. |
Custom Sustainability Reports |
New. Build and automate reports for energy use, cost, and carbon output. Schedule PDFs or share live dashboards with key stakeholders. |
Multi-Language User Interface |
Enhanced. Now available in more languages, with simple translation file support for rapid localization. |
With EMX, deploying a monitoring system doesn’t mean weeks of engineering or third-party consultants. It means turning it on.
The result? Within minutes of energizing the first sensor, you’ll see live power and environmental data—kW, amps, volts, °C/°F, and alert status—on screen. No complex setup. No hefty commissioning fees. Just actionable data, ready when you are.
And because every dashboard and table is fully customizable through a drag-and-drop editor, your team can tailor insights to match what matters, from high-level summaries to detailed circuit maps.
EMX can now model, track, and interactively visualize Data Center equipment. The equipment allows all relevant metadata and monitoring data from multiple sources to be tracked and visualized together.
Customizable data projections allow arbitrary equipment types to be quickly and easily represented, including visual highlighting of metadata (e.g. customer assignment or other tags), metric visualization (e.g. power consumption displays or colors corresponding to temperature or other metrics) and alert state highlighting (e.g. 3D flags popping up above cabinets with active alerts). All equipment visualization is available within a simple and intuitive interface, suitable for NOC and monitoring displays.
Now available in EMX, the 3-D Data Viewer offers a more intuitive way to visualize power and thermal conditions in your facility.
First introduced at Data Center World, the 3-D Viewer is already helping teams across data centers and IT rooms see their environment in new ways. Future updates will expand support to industrial and commercial spaces.
The latest EMX update also includes features designed to reduce alert fatigue while giving teams the right level of access and control.
From compliance to daily operations, EMX now gives both IT and facilities teams the tools they need to work efficiently, with controls that align with governance policies.
EMX offers multiple deployment models to align with your operational and compliance needs:
Whatever path you choose, EMX scales easily—from a single UPS panel to a network of globally distributed facilities. Monitoring traffic is isolated from your production LAN and protected with end-to-end encryption, ensuring secure, uninterrupted visibility.
Whether you're reporting to regulators or sustainability teams, EMX delivers data that’s ready for audit. Its drag-and-drop report builder turns live meter readings into clear, actionable metrics:
Because every report is powered by raw, time-stamped data directly from the devices, your teams get reliable, defensible insights—without version-control issues or manual spreadsheet edits.
Each Packet Power sensor supports unlimited virtual attributes—tags like location, rack ID, circuit type, or customer name. You can add as many as needed, then sort, filter, and group data on the fly.
Every day use cases include:
What once required manual exports and spreadsheet formulas now happens in a single dropdown—fast, accurate, and fully traceable.
Managing large deployments shouldn’t mean logging into each site one by one. The centralized Gateway Manager simplifies fleet-wide maintenance:
There are no truck rolls or tedious manual steps—just more time for your team to focus on optimization instead of upkeep.
EMX’s user interface is fully localized in more than ten languages—including English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, German, and Spanish—ensuring that international teams can operate in their native tongue from day one. Should you require additional locales, simply provide a translation file to your regional partner: the interface adapts immediately, with no further development effort or system downtime.
Over 100,000 Packet Power sensors deliver more than one billion data points every day, supporting mission-critical operations across global data centers, colocation facilities, and enterprise campuses. Organizations rely on EMX to maintain optimal rack temperatures, balance power loads, and satisfy rigorous audit requirements—confident that insights appear in minutes, not months, and without the hidden fees typical of legacy DCIM deployments.
Experience firsthand how EMX transforms your facility into an interactive, color-coded model. Schedule a live demonstration to watch your own floor plan illuminate with real-time power and thermal metrics. With EMX, deployment is as simple as plug-and-play, so you can begin making data-driven decisions today.
