Elevate Power and Environmental Monitoring with Packet Power EMX Software

Elevate Power and Environmental Monitoring with Packet Power EMX Software

The New Urgency for Real-Time Visibility

Rising energy costs, tightening ESG mandates, and the financial risk of even brief downtime have made real-time operational visibility more critical than ever. However, many legacy Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platforms still require months of complex network engineering and costly commissioning before delivering meaningful data.

Packet Power designed EMX to eliminate those barriers. Our wireless meters automatically self-configure, while the software requires just a single IP address per site to get up and running. Users can access live power and environmental readings within minutes, well before other systems would even complete setup.

In April 2025, we extended EMX’s capabilities further, introducing intuitive 3D views, intelligent alarm functionality, and robust role-based security. These enhancements build on EMX’s core promise: powerful, real-time insight delivered through a system that remains easy to deploy, manage, and scale.

A Roadmap Informed by Users, Not Just Engineers

The latest EMX release was guided directly by input from data center managers and critical facility operators worldwide. Two themes consistently emerged during user conversations.

One of the most frequent requests was, “Show me everything at a glance.” Teams needed a more intuitive, visual way to assess thermal and power risk without jumping between tabs or relying on manual spreadsheets.

Another recurring theme was the need for precise access control. As one user put it, “Give the right people the right controls—no more, no less.” For example, finance teams should not be able to change environmental thresholds, and contractors shouldn't have access to sensitive billing information.

These insights shaped the latest EMX upgrade, which now includes an intuitive  3D Data Viewer for real-time visual monitoring and alerting, granular role-based access controls, and support for SAML/SSO authentication. Each enhancement ensures that users get exactly what they need within the context of their facility—securely, efficiently, and without unnecessary complexity.

Simplified Deployment, Real-Time Visibility

With EMX, deploying a monitoring system doesn’t mean weeks of engineering or third-party consultants. It means turning it on.

  • Self-Configuring Wireless Mesh: Packet Power meters automatically connect to the nearest gateway—no manual IP assignments or VLAN complexities.

  • Single IP Address per Site: Whether you're deploying 10 sensors or 10,000, IT teams only need to whitelist one endpoint.

  • Flexible Hosting Options: Run EMX in Packet Power’s managed cloud, deploy it on-prem for secure or air-gapped environments, or launch it within your own Virtual Private Cloud.

The result? Within minutes of energizing the first sensor, you’ll see live power and environmental data—kW, amps, volts, °C/°F, and alert status—on screen. No complex setup. No hefty commissioning fees. Just actionable data, ready when you are.

And because every dashboard and table is fully customizable through a drag-and-drop editor, your team can tailor insights to match what matters, from high-level summaries to detailed circuit maps.

Site and equipment modeling and data fusion

EMX can now model, track, and interactively visualize Data Center equipment. The equipment allows all relevant metadata and monitoring data from multiple sources to be tracked and visualized together.

EMX dashboard alerting

Customizable data projections allow arbitrary equipment types to be quickly and easily represented, including visual highlighting of metadata (e.g. customer assignment or other tags), metric visualization (e.g. power consumption displays or colors corresponding to temperature or other metrics) and alert state highlighting (e.g. 3D flags popping up above cabinets with active alerts).  All equipment visualization is available within a simple and intuitive interface, suitable for NOC and monitoring displays.

A New Dimension of Clarity: 3-D Data Viewer

Now available in EMX, the 3-D Data Viewer offers a more intuitive way to visualize power and thermal conditions in your facility.

  • Heat and Power Maps: Overlay thermal or electrical data on a photorealistic model to quickly identify hotspots, imbalances, or anomalies.

  • Full Interactivity: Zoom, pan, and rotate to explore a single rack or an entire room—ideal for remote diagnostics and planning.

  • Visual Alarm Indicators: See exactly where issues occur, with alarm icons that appear directly on racks exceeding thresholds.

  • Custom KPIs: You can choose which metric to display—load, delta T, airflow, or humidity—and adjust it at any time without coding.
