Packet Power and Geist Team on Wireless Smart PDU
Geist and Packet Power Launch New Power Strip with Built-in Wireless Monitoring 20 March 2012, Lincoln, NE and Minneapolis, MN — Geist and Packet Power announce the release of the PWM intelligent wireless power strip. The PWM provides a comprehensive remote view of power usage by integrating Packet Power’s wireless power and temperature monitoring technology into a Geist power strip. The unit transmits data with no additional cords and offers wireless access to the unit's amps, volts, frequency, volt-amps, watts, kWh, power factor and temperature measurements. With the wireless capability integrated with the Geist power strip, users can easily install sophisticated power monitoring while maintaining real-time visibility to valuable power usage information. Wireless transfer of information back to a single collection point means the entire power monitoring network can reside on one IP address. Integration of this data with Geist’s RackNet or Environet DCiM solutions provides a seamless presentation of power data combined with the power and flexibility of Geist’s DCiM solutions. “Combining Geist’s power capabilities with Packet Power’s industry leading wireless technology provide data center managers with a very flexible solution for monitoring power usage throughout a facility. The fact that the PWM gathers and transmits this data on only one IP address is a critical step in driving data center costs down,” stated Brad Wilson, Executive Vice President at Geist. “Incorporating our wireless monitoring capabilities into power strips provides another example of how Packet Power is succeeding in making data center monitoring easy and affordable,” stated Steve VanTassel, CEO at Packet Power. “We have enjoyed collaborating with Geist to create the new standard for wireless smart power strips.” The PWM power strips are available immediately within North America from Geist, Packet Power and their partners. The PWM intelligent wireless power strips are offered in a variety of configurations. Packet Power and Power Assure Deliver Wireless Power and Temperature Monitoring and Optimization to Data Centers

Integrated solution enables easy, flexible and cost-effective view and management of energy use across facilities and IT

Minneapolis and Santa Clara, Calif. – January 18, 2011 – Packet Power®, a producer of wireless power monitoring systems and  Power Assure®, Inc., a data center infrastructure management solutions provider, today announced an integrated wireless power and temperature monitoring and optimization solution which is easy to deploy, highly flexible and cost-effective.  Unlike alternative products that require costly cabling and complex technical configuration, the combined solution provides joint customers with a simpler and less expensive alternative for power monitoring and data center optimization.

Within a few years the U.S. Department of Energy predicts the cost to power a server over its useful life will exceed the original capital expenditure. Worse yet is Gartner’s estimate that, on average, up to 30 percent of available power is being stranded, causing organizations to outgrow their data centers prematurely. To address these challenges, Power Assure and Packet Power are offering an integrated power management solution that enables customers to view and manage power use within the data center.

Power Assure’s Dynamic Power Management software collects power usage and temperature data from the wireless Packet Power monitoring devices for use within data center applications.  Packet Power software gathers power, temperature and relative humidity information from its wireless monitoring devices and then transmits that information to Power Assure in SNMP format.

“Packet Power offers a wireless data center monitoring solution that is very easy to deploy,” said Jack Norris, vice president of marketing, Power Assure.  “By ensuring that our products work well together, we can make it simpler for our customers to gather the data needed to effectively manage their data center power usage.”

“Power Assure's dynamic power optimization solution provides a way for companies to extract maximum value from the data which Packet Power's power and environmental monitoring infrastructure provides,” said Steve VanTassel, CEO, Packet Power.  “We are excited to have developed an integration between our products that provides full access to detailed power and temperature data in real time.”
