Packet Power and Geist Team on Wireless Smart PDU
Geist and Packet Power Launch New Power Strip with Built-in Wireless Monitoring 20 March 2012, Lincoln, NE and Minneapolis, MN — Geist and Packet Power announce the release of the PWM intelligent wireless power strip. The PWM provides a comprehensive remote view of power usage by integrating Packet Power’s wireless power and temperature monitoring technology into a Geist power strip. The unit transmits data with no additional cords and offers wireless access to the unit's amps, volts, frequency, volt-amps, watts, kWh, power factor and temperature measurements. With the wireless capability integrated with the Geist power strip, users can easily install sophisticated power monitoring while maintaining real-time visibility to valuable power usage information. Wireless transfer of information back to a single collection point means the entire power monitoring network can reside on one IP address. Integration of this data with Geist’s RackNet or Environet DCiM solutions provides a seamless presentation of power data combined with the power and flexibility of Geist’s DCiM solutions. “Combining Geist’s power capabilities with Packet Power’s industry leading wireless technology provide data center managers with a very flexible solution for monitoring power usage throughout a facility. The fact that the PWM gathers and transmits this data on only one IP address is a critical step in driving data center costs down,” stated Brad Wilson, Executive Vice President at Geist. “Incorporating our wireless monitoring capabilities into power strips provides another example of how Packet Power is succeeding in making data center monitoring easy and affordable,” stated Steve VanTassel, CEO at Packet Power. “We have enjoyed collaborating with Geist to create the new standard for wireless smart power strips.” The PWM power strips are available immediately within North America from Geist, Packet Power and their partners. The PWM intelligent wireless power strips are offered in a variety of configurations. Packet Power Debuts at GreenNet 09 -- March 24 2009

Packet Power Offers Elegant Solution to Measuring/Monitoring Data Center Energy Consumption

“Smart” Power Cables Debut at Green:Net 09

SAN FRANCISCO — March 24, 2009 — The average data center uses the same amount of electricity as 25,000 U.S. households. With energy costs on the rise, measuring, monitoring and managing energy consumption has become a top priority. However, most data centers lack the type of information needed to effectively manage their power usage. Today at the Green:Net 09 conference in San Franciso, newcomer Packet Power LLC, debuted what customers have described as an “elegant solution” that makes power monitoring simple and affordable. Packet Power™ for Data Centers is literally a “plug-n-play” solution that provides detailed power consumption information for any device – or for thousands of devices.

“We are excited to offer the simplest, most flexible and most accurate power and temperature monitoring solution available today,” said Paul Bieganski, Ph.D., founder and president of Packet Power. “Power consumption in data centers is skyrocketing and companies have come to realize that they have both an operational and environmental mandate to consume power more efficiently. Our Packet Power for Data Centers solution provides the information IT executives need to improve data center energy efficiency.”

Packet Power Solution Helps Save Costs, Energy & The Environmnet

Data centers are one of the largest and most rapidly growing sources of energy consumption in the United States. Yet according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, most data centers could cut their power consumption by half. The Packet Power™ for Data Centers offering provides the detailed power consumption information that IT managers need to effectively reduce the amount of electricity they use. Armed with that knowledge, companies can reduce costs, extend the life of their data center facilities, and lower the environmental impact of their operations.

Deploy Simply and without Disruption

Packet Power for Data Centers offers a patent-pending “smart power cable” that captures detailed information about power consumption and transmits it wirelessly for collection, analysis and reporting. By replacing an existing power cable with a Packet Power smart cable, data on the amount of power consumed by a computer (as well as the quality of the power) can be gathered every few seconds. The Packet Power system then makes it easy to view power consumption by resource type, location, application, or customer. The system also tracks temperature, making it possible to locate data center hot spots that can be harmful to computer equipment.

The company offers its own analysis and reporting software and also is working closely with providers of IT asset and facility management tools. Packet Power for Data Centers is currently in limited release with volume shipments expected in July.
